The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs
The Pittsburgh Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, graduate schools, and career/technical schools.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Scholarship Funds
Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs application.
Scholarships funds included in The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs Application:
- Carroll A. Lambton Memorial Fund
- Frank D. Di Cenzo and Mary Ciamacco Di Cenzo Memorial Scholarship Fund
- George & Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund
- Longwood Servers Scholarship Fund
- Martin J. Mitchell Scholarship Fund
- Mervin Feldman Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Wallace E. Pavlick Scholarship Fund
- William Dale Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund
Eligibility
Applicants for the following awards will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed:
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
- Be a graduating high school senior or graduate, GED holder, or current college undergraduate or graduate-level student
- Be enrolled or plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States
- Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certifications must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent), unless specified otherwise
- Awards are for undergraduate or graduate study only
Carroll A. Lambton Memorial Fund
- Full-time or part-time employee or employee dependent of the United States Department of Energy (DOE)
- OR
- Member or a child of a member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA)
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference given to applicants pursuing a career in
- Contracting
- Procurement
- Financial need is considered but not required
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria

Frank D. Di Cenzo and Mary Ciamacco Di Cenzo Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Member or child of a member of Kenmawr United Presbyterian Church, McKees Rocks (PA)
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
- Preference given to applicants who have participated in community activities
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate or graduate study only
George & Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund
- Graduating high school senior who is a dependent of full-time or part-time benefited BNY Mellon employee whose salary is below the median level as determined by BNY Mellon
- AND
- Who works and resides in Allegheny County (PA)
- AND
- Has resided in Allegheny County (PA) for at least one year prior to the application deadline date
- Enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Financial need is considered but not required
- This award is renewable three times or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, based on maintaining a cumulative 2.5 GPA, on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and full-time enrollment
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate study only
Longwood Servers Scholarship Fund
- Graduating high school senior or graduate, GED holder, or current undergraduate student who is an employee of Longwood at Oakmont (Verona PA) with at least 300 hours of service as a:
- Dining room server
- Dietary aide
- Utility worker
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Financial need is considered but not required
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate study only
Martin J. Mitchell Scholarship Fund
- Employee or former employee, or the child of an employee or former employee of Iron Age (Childs) Corporation
- Enrolled or plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university or graduate program
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Financial need is considered but not required
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate or graduate study only
Mervin Feldman Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Full-time or part-time employee or employee dependent of Green Oaks Country Club
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate or graduate study only
Wallace E. Pavlick Scholarship Fund
- Be a member of any parish within the Dioceses of Pittsburgh (https://diopitt.org/alphabetical-list-of-current-parishes)
- Preference given to members of the Parish of Triumph of the Holy Cross (Pleasant Hills, PA)
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
- This award is not renewable, but applicants may reapply each year they meet the eligibility criteria
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate study only
William Dale Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Graduating high school senior who is a dependent child of a Conrail employee
- Enroll or plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
- This award is not renewable
- An estimated 1 award(s) will be granted for undergraduate or graduate study only
Awards
Total distribution and the amount of each award for each fund shall be determined by The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study only.
Notification
All applicants will be notified in late June.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.
Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in July or early August.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered but may not be required.
If an award requires or prefers applicants who demonstrate financial need, a one-time honorarium award of $2,500 may be granted to those who do not demonstrate financial need.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
