Student Spotlight: Aramark IN2WORK and IN2(the)FUTURE Scholarships

Aramark’s commitment to innovations that reduce recidivism and build confidence takes the form, in part, of the IN2WORK program. Piloted with the Kansas Department of Corrections in 2005, IN2WORK has expanded to 36 states and 365 programs. 22,789 program graduates have received training, certification, and internships in food safety, as well as opportunities for scholarships and employment after incarceration. 

Scholarship America partners with Aramark to administer the scholarship program, which includes both the IN2WORK Scholarship for high school graduates and GED holders who have received a graduation certificate from the IN2WORK Training Program, credentials from ServSafe, American Culinary Federation, RISE Up, or OSHA-10 General Industry Program sponsored by Aramark, as well as the IN2(the)FUTURE Scholarship for the children and spouses of IN2WORK graduates. 

Scholarship America spoke with two recipients of Aramark-sponsored scholarships, Rebecca and Gabriella, about how this support is fueling their dreams for the future. 

Scholarship America: What did it mean to you to receive this scholarship? 

Rebecca: It meant that I could further my education and create a bright future for myself and my family. 

Gabriella: This scholarship means more than just financial support. It gives me the opportunity to continue my education with less stress and more focus on my studies. It motivated me to continue working hard toward my goals and reminds me that others believe in my potential. 

Scholarship America: How do you plan to use the scholarship? 

Rebecca: I will use it to continue my pursuit of a degree in business administration. 

Gabriella: I plan to use this scholarship towards getting my degree in graphic design. 

Scholarship America: What are your hopes and plans for the future? 

Rebecca: I hope to gain my degree and be a successful part owner in a wood-fired pizza food truck with my fiancé. 

Gabriella: My hope is to finish school and build a career where I can use my creativity to make a meaningful impact. I want to continue developing my skills, work on projects that challenge and inspire me and eventually establish myself as a designer. I also plan to build a stable future for myself and continue taking advantage of opportunities that help me grow both personally and professionally. 

Scholarship America: What is your best piece of advice for other IN2WORK students and graduates? 

Rebecca: Don’t give up and continue to do the next right thing! 

Gabriella: There were times when I questioned myself or felt like I wasn’t making enough progress, but I kept going anyway. One mindset that has helped me is that I’d rather do something while not being ready for it than never doing it at all. You’ll never feel 100% prepared for every opportunity, and that’s okay. Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s.
