Wellpoint Washington Scholarship Program

Wellpoint Washington, Inc. has established a scholarship program for students residing in Washington who plan to continue their education in college and pursue a degree or certification in an eligible field of study.

Wellpoint Washington Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Wellpoint Washington Scholarship Program must:

  • Reside (have a permanent address) in Washington
  • Be a high school senior or graduate, current college undergraduate or graduate level student
  • Plan to enroll in part-time* or full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four year college, university or vocational-technical school in Washington for the entire upcoming academic year
    • *Part-time is defined as a minimum of 6 credit hours per term or equivalent
    • Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must be a minimum of one term in length. Recipients must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August.
    • All coursework must be completed through an accredited institution and lead to a certification
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Plan to pursue one of the following degrees or certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse LPN)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
  • Certified EKG Technician (CET)
  • Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • NCCER Plumbing Technician
  • Plumbing Technology – Certificate of Competency
  • Residential/Commercial Plumbing Technician
  • Certified Plumbing Design Technician (CPDT)
  • Journeyman Electrician
  • Master Electrician
  • Electrical Technology Certificate
  • Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST)
  • Certified Electrical Inspector (CEI)
  • Cosmetology for Licensure – Master Cosmetologist
  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)
  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $4,500 award. Up to 9 awards will be granted.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for certificate, undergraduate or graduate study.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Wellpoint Washington, Inc.

Payment is made in August.

Awards can be used for any education-related expenses (includes tuition, fees, books, supplies and room and board)

Wellpoint Washington, Inc. may contact recipients for purposes of event invitations, marketing, and/or other opportunities.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America.

In no instance does any officer or employee of Wellpoint Washington, Inc. play a part in the selection.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
