Joe Welch Legacy Scholarship

ITC Holdings Corporation has established a scholarship program for current children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.

Joe Welch Legacy Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Joe Welch Legacy Scholarship must:

  • Be dependent* children of full-time, regular status ITC Holdings Corp. domestic employees who have a minimum of one (1) year employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
    *Dependent children are children who qualify for benefits provided by the company. The company’s definition of dependent children qualifications includes:

    • Children under age 26; dependency ends at the end of the month that the child reaches age 26.
    • Natural and adopted children, stepchildren, children placed in the eligible employee’s home for adoption or are required to cover as the result of a Qualified Medical Child Support Order.
    • A child for whom the employee have been awarded legal guardianship until they turn age of 18.
    • The employee’s unmarried dependent child over age 26 who was totally and permanently disabled before age 19 and who you support financially.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of Vice Presidents and above are ineligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to five (5) awards will be granted.

Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale), full-time enrollment and continued parental employment.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Awards can be used for any education-related expenses. Award amounts may be adjusted if award exceeds the cost of qualified education-related expenses.

Sponsor may contact recipients for purposes of event invitations, marketing, and/or internship opportunities.

Sponsor authorizes SAI to release funds as award payments according to the program calendar.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of ITC Holdings Corporation.

Payment is made in late July.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America.

In no instance does any officer or employee of ITC Holdings Corporation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than three business days after the application deadline date.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
