Unitus Community Credit Union Scholarship Program
Unitus Community Credit Union is pleased to offer a scholarship program to assist members (primary or joint) of Unitus whose account is in good standing with the cost of higher education.
Unitus Community Credit Union Scholarship Program
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Unitus Community Credit Union Scholarship Program must:
- Be either of the following:
- Dependent biological, step, or adoptive child; or biological, step, or adoptive grandchild; of a current Unitus Community Credit Union employee.
OR
-
- Members (primary or joint) of Unitus Community Credit Union whose account is in good standing and has been in service for least 6 months at time of application.
AND
-
- Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates.
- Plan to enroll or are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Awards
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $3,000 award. Up to nine (9) awards of $3,000 each will be granted as follows:
- Six (6) at large
- Two (2) awards to children or grandchildren of Unitus employees
- One (1) “Barbara Leonard Memorial Scholarship Award”: this scholarship will be awarded to a BIPOC student who has demonstrated academic potential, high achievement, and leadership.
Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
If there aren’t enough qualified applications received for any of the award groups above, the award(s) will be allocated to one of the other groups.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Recipients must continue to meet the program eligibility requirements up until the time awards are disbursed in July.
Notification
Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.
Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship awards on behalf of Unitus Community Credit Union. Disbursements are made in July.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
- There is no minimum GPA requirement
Financial need is not considered.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Unitus Community Credit Union play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
