Trader Joe’s has established the Trader Joe’s Vernon Boykin Scholarship to assist Crew Members who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

Trader Joe’s Vernon Boykin Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

TJ’s Vernon Boykin Scholarship Eligibility

Applicants to the Trader Joe’s Vernon Boykin Scholarship must meet one of the following eligibility combinations:

  • Be an Eligible Crew Member*
    OR
  • Be the immediate family member (spouse or dependent child under age 26) of an Eligible Crew member*

AND

  • Be a 2026 high school graduate, current undergraduate or graduate student who plans to attend courses in full- or part-time study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, graduate school or vocational-technical school during the 2026 calendar year
    OR
  • Have unpaid student loans

*Eligible Crew Members must be currently employed by Trader Joe’s and have worked 900 or more hours in the twelve-month period preceding May 31, 2026.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award determined by Trader Joe’s College Scholarship Committee. Award amounts fluctuate annually based on the total number of applicants.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, a consideration statement, and an optional statement of financial need. Applicants are not required to provide financial information, however, financial need will be considered in determining the award amount. Award amounts fluctuate annually based on the total number of applicants.

Applicants who submit a completed a FSS(FAFSA Submission Summary) will be considered separate from those who do not.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in early October. Recipients will be required to submit proof of enrollment or a current loan statement. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Trader Joe’s processes scholarship payments. College Scholarship awards are made directly to recipients from October to December through payroll following verification of current enrollment.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Optional: FSS(FAFSA Submission Summary). Applicants who submit a completed FSS will be considered separate from those who do not.
  • Required: Current student loan statement if you are applying for loan repayment.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
