W.C. Stillwell Foundation Scholarship

The W.C. Stillwell Foundation Scholarship was established for current undergraduate students, college graduates, or current graduate students in a Doctor of Medicine program, who are seeking their Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree in medical school for the upcoming academic year.

W.C. Stillwell Foundation Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the W.C. Stillwell Foundation Scholarship must:

  • Have grown up* and graduated from a high school in one of the Southern Minnesota counties:
    • Renville, Lincoln, Lyon, Redwood, Sibley, Brown, Nicollet, Le Sueur, Rice, Pipestone, Murray, Cottonwood, Watonwan, Blue Earth, Waseca, Steele, Rock, Nobles, Jackson, Martin, Faribault, or Freeborn
    • *Definition of grown up – have lived the majority of their life in one of the listed counties
  • Be a current college undergraduate, college graduate, or current graduate student in a Doctor of Medicine program
  • Plan to be enrolled in full-time graduate study seeking their Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited medical school

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $4,000 to $10,000.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from medical school is earned, whichever occurs first based on satisfactory academic performance and part-time (for special circumstances only) or full-time enrollment.

Awards are for graduate study only.

Awards are for qualified education-related expenses only (tuition, fees, books, and required supplies/equipment).

Awards amounts may be adjusted if the award exceeds the cost of qualified education-related expenses.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments made payable to the college/university. Payment is made in July.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • A copy of your medical school application confirmation to show they’ve applied to MD program.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 5, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
