Rivers Casino – Des Plaines, IL Team Member Scholarship Program
Midwest Gaming and Entertainment, LLC (“Rivers Casino”) has established a scholarship program to assist Des Plaines, IL Rivers Casino team members or their children and grandchildren who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study (team member and dependents) and part-time study (team member only) at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
Rivers Casino – Des Plaines, IL Team Member Scholarship Program
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Rivers Casino – Des Plaines, IL Team Member Scholarship Program award must:
- Be either (i) a full-time Des Plaines, IL Rivers Casino team member who is in good standing and has a minimum of six continuous months employment with the company as of the application deadline date OR (ii) a part-time Des Plaines, IL Rivers Casino team member who is in good standing and, as of the application deadline date, has a minimum of six continuous months employment with the company and works an average of 20 hours per week measured since date of hire (if less than 12 months) or over the last 12 months;
- Be a current or expected undergraduate or graduate student;
- Plan to enroll in full-time or part-time (minimum 6 credits) undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year (those who will be graduating in the upcoming Fall term would be eligible for up to half of their award amount); and
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
OR
- Be a dependent* child or grandchild, age 26 or under, of a full-time Des Plaines, IL Rivers Casino team member who is in good standing and has a minimum of six continuous months employment with the company as of the application deadline date;
- Be a high school senior or graduate or current undergraduate;
- Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year (those who will be graduating in the upcoming Fall term would be eligible for up to half of their award amount); and
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the team member’s household or primarily supported by the team member. Grandchildren must be biological or legally adopted, and living in the team member’s household or primarily supported by the team member.
Awards
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,500 up to the total comprehensive, yearly school costs of the institution in which the recipient will be enrolled.
Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
The team member must continue to be employed and in good standing at the time each award check is mailed.
Awards are for undergraduate study (team member and dependents) and graduate study (team member only).
Notification
Applicants will be notified by mid-June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Rivers Casino. Payments are made in equal installments in mid-August and mid-December.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award. Recipients who demonstrate no need will be eligible to receive an honorarium at the minimum amount.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or team member of Des Plaines, IL Rivers Casino play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
- Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information section of the application. Please black out all social security numbers and bank account information.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
