Odyssey Group Scholars Program

Odyssey Reinsurance Company has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Odyssey Group Scholars Program must:

  • Be dependent* children, age 23 and under, of full-time U.S. employees of Odyssey Reinsurance Company, including Hudson Insurance Group, who have a minimum of two years of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step- and legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year in the United States.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Children of Senior Vice Presidents and above are ineligible to apply. Limited to one active award per employee family.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $20,000 award. Up to 5 awards will be granted.

Awards are renewable up to three consecutive years or until completion of the enrolled degree/vocational program, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent in a full-time course of study) and continued parental employment. Recipients enrolled in a combination Bachelor’s/Master’s program will be able to renew their awards until they have satisfied their Bachelor’s program requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only in a US-based institution.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Odyssey Reinsurance Company. Payments are made in August and January.

Selection of Recipients

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives

Recipients will be selected from a pool of qualified applicants with consideration given to those who demonstrate the greatest need. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the Odyssey Reinsurance Company play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
