About the Scholarship

New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship Program identifies and awards outstanding high school students who have completed specified New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship game modules.

The New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship Program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship Program must:

  • Be high school juniors* or seniors, who are legal residents of the 50 United States (and the District of Columbia).
  • Have downloaded the ZOGO app, registered an account using an access code provided by NYL, and completed a minimum of 25 of the 180 modules available for selection in the NYL Financial Literacy Learning Challenge (“FLLC”) available on the ZOGO app.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college/university or vocational-technical or trade school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Fulfill any other eligibility requirements set forth in the New York Life Financial Empowerment Scholarship Program Official Rules.

Children of employees and agents of NYL and Supplier are ineligible.

*High school juniors who are selected as recipients will have their award deferred for one year and will receive their award upon high school graduation and enrollment for that upcoming academic year.

Awards

Applicants will be placed in one of four Zones based on the state they live in, and will be selected based on those zones. The Zones are defined as:

  • Northeast Zone: CT, DE, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT
  • South Central Zone: AL, DC, FL, GA, IN, KY, MD, MI, MS, NC, OH, SC, TN, VA, WV
  • West Central Zone: AR, CO, IA, IL, KS, LA, MN, MO, ND, NE, NM, OK, SD, TX, WI
  • Pacific Zone: AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, MT, NV, OR UT, WA, WY

Each of the four participating zones will each receive five awards based on the following distribution:

  • Three $10,000 awards per zone will be granted to students who have completed a minimum of 25 different modules, but less than 50 modules.
  • Two $20,000 awards per zone will be granted to students who have completed at least 50 different modules.

Awards are one-time only. Past recipients cannot reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study, and can be used for any education-related expenses (e.g. tuition, fees, books, supplies and required materials). Awards cannot be used for non-educational related expenses (e.g. room and board, activities, travel, etc.)

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship America will select finalists on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • FLLC Essay: Share your experience of the FLLC and how it will prepare you for your future.

Financial need will not be considered.

Scholarship America will identify and select program finalists, and NYL will select the recipients from the group of selected finalists. Scholarship America will not share any Personal Identifiable Information (PII) with NYL for any applicants. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in early October.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments. Payment is made in December.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
