Payment of Scholarships

Payments are made in July after Sponsor verification of parental employment. Scholarship America and Nevada Gold Mines LLC cannot guarantee that checks will be received by tuition deadlines. Should deadlines occur prior to receiving the scholarship payment, students should submit their notification email from Scholarship America to their school as proof of a forthcoming award.

Payments are made payable to the educational institution and mailed to the student’s address as it appears on their application. Students are responsible for notifying Scholarship America if their mailing address is different than that on their application.

Students must reapply each academic year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are taxable income to employees of Nevada Gold Mines LLC and Barrick Gold of North America whose dependent children receive a scholarship award. Taxes will be applied to a paycheck of the Nevada Gold Mines LLC or Barrick Gold of North America employee. To understand tax liability, recipients are encouraged to contact a financial advisor or tax professional at their own cost.
