The Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation has established a scholarship program.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
This is the information and resource site for the Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation application. Please use the following information for the program eligibilities, required supplementary documentation and the steps to take for accessing and completing the application.

This application submission window is for Fall 2025 term only.
Apply now on this application for fall 2025 term. Approved, eligible students who apply on this application will receive a check payable to the student for fall term 2025.
About the Scholarship
General Information
Your completed application must be submitted electronically by the deadline date May 29, 2026 3:00 pm Central Time (1:00 pm Pacific Time). Late applications are not accepted.
Students are responsible for maintaining their username, password and User ID information to ensure account access at any time.
Scholarship America customer support is available 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. PT) on weekdays (excluding holidays).
Instructions for submitting your application:
Step 1:
Click on the “Scholarship America Hub” button at the bottom of this page:
- New applicants: create an account on the Scholarship America Hub and complete the Profile. After saving, the application can be started under the Scholarships page. Students are responsible for maintaining their username, password and User ID information to ensure account access at any time.
- Returning applicants: use your username and password to log in to the Scholarship America Hub. If you have started the current term’s application, it can be found on the Dashboard page. If you have not started the current term’s application, it will be found on the Scholarships page. If necessary, update the Profile.
Step 2:
Use the “Scholarship America Hub” button at the bottom of this page to login to the Hub. If you have started the application for the current term, you can find it under the Dashboard page of the Hub. If you are starting your application for the current term, it will be found under the Scholarships page of the Hub. See above for the application submission window for the current term.
Step 3:
Be sure to upload the required supporting documents with your application.
- Current, complete transcript of grades through fall 2024 term reflecting a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and a minimum 11 credits of enrollment for all terms previously funded through this program.
- Transcript or class schedule displaying a minimum of 11 credits enrolled for fall term 2025.
- Proof of Tribal membership (required for applicants that haven’t previously received funding) – evidence of eligible tribal enrollment or evidence of descent, residency or parental enrollment.
Eligibility
Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation Guidelines
Program Features
- For students enrolled full-time in an eligible/accredited college, university or vocational program or institution for fall 2025 term
- Full-time is a minimum of 11 credits (or equivalent as recognized by the school)
**Enrollment is expected to be continuous. If a scholarship participant has interrupted studies for a period longer than one academic year, eligibility in the scholarship program will not be reestablished unless the student can demonstrate interruption was due to hardship or other good cause and the student is committed to return to studies and to complete them on an uninterrupted basis. - Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA
- $3,000 per term/semester, up to two payments per year
- Approved, eligible students will receive a check payable to the student for fall 2025 term
- Award check will be payable to the student and mailed to the student’s home address
- May also be eligible for Nevada Gold Mines “GOLD” Mining scholarship
- Not eligible for Tuition Assistance Program at Great Basin College
Eligibilities
To be eligible an applicant must be a descendant and:

- Be a high school graduate (or have GED equivalent) and
- Be enrolled full-time to attend an eligible educational institution and
- Be EITHER a descendant who is an enrolled member of one of the following Tribes or Bands:
- Battle Mountain Band of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone1
- Duck Valley Shoshone-Paiute Tribe
- Duckwater Shoshone Tribe
- Elko Band of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone
- Ely Shoshone Tribe
- South Fork Band of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone
- Wells Band of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone
- Yomba Shoshone Tribe
- OR
- Western Shoshone, Goshute, or Paiute descendant who is not an enrolled member of any of the tribes/bands listed above, who is a resident of any one of the tribes/bands reservation or service area with a parent who is tribally enrolled in one of the Western Shoshone, Goshute, or Paiute Tribes
Residency Waiver Conditions:
The residency requirement for educational support from Nevada Gold Mines for a non-enrolled applicant with one parent who is an enrolled member of a partner community will be waived if the applicant has moved out of the reservation or service area of a partner community:
- to join the United States military service,
- to attend college, university or vocational school (so long as the applicant is still in school),
- to attend Indian Residential School,
- because the applicant was removed from his or her household by child welfare services, or
- because a caregiver/parent of the applicant died and the applicant went to live with another relative.
There is no age limit on eligibility.
1Applicants affiliated with the Battle Mountain Band of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone who are eligible based upon the eligibility criteria defined above will receive scholarships identical to NNSF scholarships, but the funds for these scholarships will be provided directly by Nevada Gold Mines. Battle Mountain Band applicants must follow the same application process and associated requirements, selection criteria, and award levels will be the same.
Tuition Assistance Program for Part-time Coursework at Great Basin College Guidelines
Program Features
- For eligible students taking part-time course work through Great Basin College who are ineligible for the Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation
- Only for degree/certificate programs which promote career enhancement, increased potential for employment, or increased earning potential
- Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to be eligible
- Covers tuition and fees for course work, up to 10 credit hours per semester
- Award is paid directly to Great Basin College for credit to student account
- Enrollment is expected to be continuous. If a scholarship participant has interrupted studies for a period longer than one academic year, eligibility in the scholarship program will not be reestablished unless the student can demonstrate interruption was due to hardship or other good cause and the student is committed to return to studies and to complete them on an uninterrupted basis.

Nevada Gold Mines “Gold” Mining Scholarship for Western Shoshone Program Guidelines
Purpose of the program
To encourage and support Western Shoshone community members from Nevada Gold Mines’ partner communities to pursue and complete university/college educational programs in career fields in the mining industry and to join Nevada Gold Mines’ operations as employees.
Eligibility Pool
Current Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation (NNSF) award recipients who maintain eligibility for the NNSF awards for every semester/term for which the Nevada Gold Mines “Gold” Mining Scholarship is offered.
Scholarship Benefit
- $1500 per term/semester up to 2 times per year until degree granted (in addition to the NNSF scholarship).
- Paid summer internship at Nevada Gold Mines mining operation in Nevada between sophomore/junior and junior/senior years.
- High potential for job offer following granting of degree in mining related major.
Eligibility Criteria

- Minimum GPA 2.5 or the equivalent at the educational institution
- Full time student status
- Sophomore, Junior or Senior status as an undergraduate, or MSc or PhD program
- Majoring in one of the following degree fields:
- Chemical, Electrical, Geological, Geophysical, Geotechnical Environmental, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Mining Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Finance/Accounting
- Geology
- Health & Safety
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Mineral Processing
- Reliability Supply Chain
- Wildlife Ecology/Conservation
- Must be willing to work paid summer internship jobs at Nevada Gold Mines’ mines every summer that follows a semester funded with a scholarship (except semester preceding graduation)
- Must be diligently pursuing degree in the declared major with full-time status and be able to provide course curriculum verification from school
Application Requirements
Applicants who receive funding from the Newe Numa Scholarship Foundation will be screened for eligibility for the Nevada Gold Mines “Gold” Mining Scholarship. No additional application or documents are required.
Payment of Support
Award check(s) will be payable to the student and mailed to the student’s home address.
Requirements
The following documents must be submitted by applicants seeking an initial tuition support award:
(For NNSF and Tuition Assistance programs)
- Application for Scholarship Funds – completed online
- Copy of grades/transcript reflecting a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) from any post-secondary education efforts or high school diploma with final high school transcript or GED certificate for those who have not previously pursued post-high school education
- Evidence of Eligible Tribal Enrollment or evidence of residency and parental enrollment
The following documents must be submitted by applicants seeking a continuing tuition support award:

- Application for Scholarship Funds – completed online
- Current, complete transcript through spring 2025 term reflecting a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and a minimum of 11 credits of enrollment for all terms previously funded through this program
- Transcript or class schedule displaying a minimum of 11 credits enrolled for fall term 2025.
- Evidence of Tribal Affiliation or Residency/parental enrollment – only required if applicant’s tribal affiliation/enrollment has changed since original application (photocopies are acceptable)
