Modern Woodmen Scholarship

Modern Woodmen of America has established a scholarship program to assist Modern Woodmen members who are current high school seniors planning to continue their education in college.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to both Track 1 and Track 2 of the Modern Woodmen Scholarship competition must:

  • Have held a Modern Woodmen life insurance certificate since Jan. 1, 2025. (The certificate must be on a premium-paying basis or must be paid-up according to the terms of the certificate, other than through use of the nonforfeiture option.)
  • Be high school seniors who will graduate between January 1 and August 31, 2026.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2026-2027 academic year.
  • Have a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer experience in the previous two years.
  • Authorize release of application information to Modern Woodmen.
  • For Track 1 awards: Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • For Track 2 awards: Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Awards

The program consists of two award recipient tracks. (Scholarship America will determine in which track the recipient is placed.) Authorized distributions for new awards will be as follows:

  • 12 scholarships at $10,000 (Track 1)
  • 12 scholarships at $ 7,500 (Track 1)
  • 12 scholarships at $ 5,000 (Track 1)
  • 12 scholarships at $ 2,500 (Track 1)
  • 150 scholarships at $ 1,000 (Track 2)

All recipients must agree to allow Modern Woodmen to use their name and photo for promotional purposes, including social media. Additionally, once notified they have been selected as a recipient, Track 1 recipients must also agree to submit a video (up to two minutes in length) describing how they make an impact through volunteering and/or how volunteering has made an impact on their lives. Such videos will be used by Modern Woodmen for promotional purposes, including social media. Track 1 and Track 2 recipients must agree to submit a photo of themselves. If a Track 1 recipient does not submit a video within the allotted acceptance timeframe, they will be disqualified from receiving an award and an alternate recipient will be chosen.

Awards are one-time only and not renewable.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.
