Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Three essay responses (200 words):
    1. Provide a brief statement describing your personal identity, family background and/or other connections to your ethnic heritage.
    2. Tell us what you are passionate about in your field of study, community, and beyond.
    3. Describe how receiving this scholarship would impact your academic career, goals, and life. Describe any disadvantages or challenges, in particular environmental or economic challenges, you’ve faced as a student, and what you learned from this experience. Feel free to include context for your academic results.

The following will not be evaluated by Scholarship America but may be considered by Milliman in recipient selection:

  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Come from an environmentally disadvantaged background (e.g. foster care, housing instability or other challenging personal circumstances)
  • Be the first generation of their household to attend college
  • Come from an economically disadvantaged household

Financial need is not required. However, if described in the essays, it may be taken into consideration during the recipient selection process.

Scholarship America will select approximately 20-30 finalists and Milliman will select recipients and determine award amounts. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
