Medtronic has established a scholarship program for children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.
The Medtronic Scholarship Program was established in 1982 as a memorial to recognize the leadership and service Palmer J. Hermundslie gave to Medtronic as a co-founder of the company. Medtronic offers this program to aid and encourage employees’ children in continuing their education.
Scholarships are offered to children of eligible U.S. and Puerto Rico-based Medtronic employees and its subsidiaries. The program is competitive and recipients are awarded scholarships for full-time study at any accredited postsecondary institution of the student’s choice.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants of the Medtronic Scholarship Program award must be:
Children of Medtronic employees at Vice President level or above are not eligible for this program.
*Applicants need to be enrolled as a full-time (12+ credits) student for both fall and spring semester.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $500 to $1,500.
Awards are for undergraduate study only, and are limited to two awards per family per year.
Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet the eligibility requirements. If the student is selected as a recipient and will not be enrolled for the full academic year, the award amount will be prorated.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award. Recipients who do not demonstrate need or whose parents choose not to provide the requested financial information will receive a $500 honorarium award. All other recipients will receive a $1,500 award.
Recipients are selected by Scholarship America. All information received is considered confidential. In no instance does any officer or employee of Medtronic play a part in the selection. Decisions of the selection committee are final and are not subject to appeal. The program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.
The selection process will not be influenced or affected by the actual or perceived race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, gender, or sexual orientation of any applicant.
Applicants will be notified in early June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.
Please make sure to add strong>studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.
Names of recipients may be announced in Medtronic’s internal publications.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Medtronic. Awards will be paid in one installment in mid-August.
