Medina Hospital Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school program.

Medina Hospital Community and Bill & Ruth Kelly Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Medina Hospital Community and Bill & Ruth Kelly Scholarship Program must:

  • Be high school seniors in one of seven selected Medina County schools including Black River, Brunswick, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, Medina, or Wadsworth high schools, or a homeschooled high school senior residing in one of those seven school districts.
  • Applicants under consideration for the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital award must be high school seniors at Canton McKinley High School, Canton, OH.
  • Applicants under consideration for the Bill & Ruth Kelly award must be high school seniors at or graduates of one of the seven selected Medina County schools including Black River, Brunswick, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, Medina, or Wadsworth high schools.
  • Plan to enroll or students already enrolled in full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Be pursuing a degree in nursing or an allied health curriculum.

Awards

Award information:

  • The authorized distribution for new awards is $20,000.
  • Up to fourteen (14) awards of $1,000 will be granted.
  • Up to two (2) awards will be granted to students from each high school if qualified applications are received.
  • In addition, two (2) Bill & Ruth Kelly Scholarships of $1,000 each will be granted.
  • In addition, two (2) Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Scholarships of $2,000 each will be granted.
  • Awards are not renewable; however students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.
  • Recipients may receive only one (1) Medina Hospital Scholarship Award at a time.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Medina Hospital Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of Medina Hospital Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 27, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
