MDU Resources Group Employees' Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the MDU Resources Group Employees’ Scholarship Program must:

  • Be children (natural, adopted or stepchild), grandchildren, or spouses of active, full-time employees of MDU Resources Group, Inc. or any of its affiliated organizations, who have been employed on a regular basis as defined by the respective employing company for a a minimum of one year as of the application deadline. Children or the spouse of a deceased employee are also eligible, provided the employee was an active, full-time employee on a regular basis as defined by the respective employee company for a minimum of one year at the time of his/her death.
  • Be students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school or online college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Twenty-eight (28) awards are for undergraduate study, and two (2) awards are for graduate study. If the two graduate study awards cannot be awarded, they may be given to undergraduate students. Up to 20% of the awards may go to grandchildren.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Per IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47, the employment eligibility requirement does not apply to previous recipients.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study. Students are limited to receiving one undergraduate award and one graduate award. Ex: A student who has previously received the undergraduate award may reapply for the graduate award, but not for the undergraduate award.

Awards are for qualified education-related expenses only (tuition, fees, books and required supplies/equipment). Award amounts may be adjusted if the award exceeds the cost of qualified education-related expenses.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late July.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.
