Main Street Capital Corporation Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Main Street Capital Corporation Scholarship must:

  • Be dependent* children, age 26 and under, of either full-time Main Street Capital Corporation employees, or full-time employees of these select portfolio companies, who have a minimum of one (1) year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date. Staffing agency employees’ children and children of executive team members are ineligible to apply.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s or client’s household or primarily supported by the employee or client.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Disabled applicants may attend part-time or full-time. Special consideration will be given to students who meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) definition of having a disability: “A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a person who has a history or record of such an impairment, or a person who is perceived by others as having such an impairment.” Applicants with disabilities that meet the ADA definition will be required to provide medical documentation.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) if applying for a four-year scholarship. No minimum grade point average is required for the two-year, community college or vocational-technical awards.

Special consideration will be given to students who are first-generation college students (neither of the applicant’s parents or guardians has completed a 4-year college degree or higher).

Awards

The authorized distribution for new awards will be as follows:

  • Up to ten (10) awards of $2,000 each will be granted for two-year, community college or vocational-technical study.
  • Up to twenty-two (22) awards of $5,000 each will be granted for four-year study.

Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study and continued parental employment with Main Street Capital Corporation or its affiliated eligible portfolio company.

  • Two-year program $2,000 awards are renewable once for up to 2 years total ($4,000 total) if criteria met.
  • Four-year program $5,000 awards are renewable for three years up to 4 years total ($20,000 total) if criteria met or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.

A two-year recipient may be considered for an additional two-year award if they transfer to a four-year college; however, they would need to reapply and renewal does not automatically occur.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Awards can be used for any education-related expenses.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.
