LP Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the LP Scholarship Program must:

  • Be dependent* children of full-time U.S. or Canadian employees of LP Corporation or one of its subsidiaries who have a minimum of one year of continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Dependent children are defined as those who qualify for participation in the company’s group insurance.
  • Be high school seniors/students in their final year of upper or higher secondary school or CEGEP, graduates, or current technical or college/university undergraduate students.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school (or equivalent) for the entire upcoming academic year

Children of LP’s Board of Directors and executive officers (LP’s Management) are not eligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to fifty (50) scholarships will be granted each year as follows:

  • Thirty-eight (38) awards will be granted to students attending a four-year college or university (or equivalent).
  • Twelve (12) awards will be granted to students attending a community college or vocational-technical school provided there are enough qualified applications with preference given to the following fields of study:
    • Electrical
    • Electrical & Controls
    • Hydraulics & Pneumatics
    • Industrial Mobile Equipment Maintenance
    • Lean Six Sigma
    • Machinist
    • Mechanical
    • Millwright
    • Quality Control
    • Statistical Process Control

If there are not enough applicants in one pool those awards can be granted to applicants from the other pool.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic performance in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school (or equivalent) in the U.S. or Canada and continued parental employment.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late April.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of LP. Payments are issued in U.S. currency and processed in one installment in early August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, is considered. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of LP play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Due to differences in educational systems, current secondary school students must include clear photocopies of the following materials:

  • Academic record (transcript of grades) for all secondary education course work completed during the past three years
  • Results of academic examinations

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
