The GEICO Scholarship Program
The GEICO Scholarship Programs are for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees.
The GEICO Scholarship Program
Scholarships are awarded each year to children of associates of the GEICO family of companies. Awards are given through five programs to assist with tuition and expenses of attending an accredited postsecondary school.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- Dependent children* age 24 and under of any current full-time or part-time associate of GEICO** who meet the following requirements:
- Full-time associates must have worked for the companies for at least one continuous year by the application deadline date.
- Part-time associates must have worked for the companies for at least three continuous years by the application deadline date.
- High school seniors, high school graduates, college undergraduates, or graduate students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in full-time study for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
Children of GEICO associates with titles of Senior Director or above are ineligible.
*Dependent children are defined as unmarried, natural, legally adopted, or stepchildren, primarily supported by the associate; or primarily supported by the associate and age 24 and under, if the child is a full-time student. Disabled dependents over the age of 24 may apply if they are on their parent’s benefits plan.
**GEICO refers to GEICO Corporation and to all subsidiaries (excluding McLane Company, Inc., Clayton Homes, Inc. and TTI, Inc.)
Awards
All Awards
Students will receive the highest GEICO award for which they are qualified. A student may receive only one award at a time. However, a student may receive any combination of GEICO awards for more than four years as long as eligibility requirements are met at the time of application.
GEICO Family Scholars Awards
GEICO Family Scholars Awards are for full-time undergraduate or graduate study at any accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Up to 100 awards of $3,500 each will be granted.
Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and full-time enrollment.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
The Davidson Scholars Awards
The Davidson Scholars Awards are for full-time undergraduate and graduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.
- The Betty Gael Davidson Scholarship – Up to 1 award of $8,000 will be granted
- The Lorimer A. Davidson Scholarship – Up to 1 award of $8,000 will be granted
- The Davidson Distinguished Scholars – Up to 8 awards of $2,000 will be granted
The Betty Gael Davidson Scholarship and the Lorimer A. Davidson Scholarship are granted to the top two applicants.
Awards are renewable for one additional year, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and full-time enrollment.
Program is governed by IRS 76-47; No more than 25% of the eligible applicants will be selected.
Financial need will not be considered.
Tony and Sally Nicely Scholarship
The Tony and Sally Nicely Scholarships are for full-time undergraduate or graduate study at any accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Up to 4 awards of $5,000 each will be granted.
Awards are not renewable; however, students can reapply to the program each year they meet the eligibility requirements.
Program is governed by IRS 76-47; No more than 25% of the eligible applicants will be selected.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Georgie and William B. Snyder Scholarships
The Georgie and William B. Snyder Scholarships are for full-time undergraduate study at any accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Up to 15 awards of $4,500 each will be granted.
Awards are renewable up to three years if the students maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), continue full-time enrollment in an undergraduate course of study and are no more than 25 years of age when the fall term begins.
Program is governed by IRS 76-47; No more than 25% of the eligible applicants will be selected.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Dorothy and Jack Byrne Scholarships
The Dorothy and Jack Byrne Scholarships are for graduating high school seniors for full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Up to 2 awards of $2,500 each will be granted.
Awards are renewable up to three years, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and full-time enrollment in an undergraduate course of study.
Program is governed by IRS 76-47; No more than 25% of the eligible applicants will be selected.
Financial need will not be considered.
David Lloyd and Carmen Kreeger Scholarships
David Lloyd and Carmen Kreeger Scholarships are for full-time undergraduate study in a fine arts or music program at any accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year.
Up to 2 awards of $4,000 each will be granted.
Awards are for full-time undergraduate study and not renewable; however; students may reapply and receive the award up to a total of four times.
Program is governed by IRS 76-47; No more than 25% of the eligible applicants will be selected.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of career and educational goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
Financial need is also considered for the David Lloyd and Carmen Kreeger, Georgie and William B. Snyder, Tony and Sally Nicely, and GEICO Family Scholars awards.
For the Davidson, Georgie and William B. Snyder, Dorothy and Jack Byrne, Tony and Sally Nicely, and David Lloyd and Carmen Kreeger Scholarships: no more than 25% of the total number of eligible applicants will be selected for these awards.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of GEICO play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Notification
Applicants will be notified via email in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of GEICO. Payments are made in one installment in early August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.
Revisions
GEICO Corporation and the GEICO Philanthropic Foundations reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
Frequently Asked Questions
The application you submit will be considered for all of the awards listed under the GEICO Scholarship Program, provided you meet the eligibility criteria listed for the specific award. Students will receive the highest GEICO award for which they are qualified. A student may receive only one award at a time. However, a student may receive any combination of GEICO awards for more than four years as long as eligibility requirements are met at the time of application.
You can still apply for these scholarships. Use the expected completion date of your graduate degree, and indicate you will be pursuing a graduate degree. If you are uncertain the information you submitted in your application, we recommend you email us to ensure you will be considered for the correct awards. If you do not feel it is necessary to contact us, we will use the information provided in your application.
A complete transcript of grades is required for all programs. Family financial data is required if the student is applying for financial need-based awards: please see the next two questions below.
Important: We advise that students obtain this information well in advance of the application deadline. The deadline will not be extended due to missing information.
As part of your application, you must upload a current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
The below information is not required, but if the student wishes to be considered for need based awards, the following will need to be provided:
- The applicant must complete the financial section using the GEICO associate parent/guardian(s) most recently filed income tax return
- State of Residence
- Adjusted gross income
- Total federal tax paid
- Total income of parent/guardian
- Total income of other parent/guardian
- Yearly untaxed income and benefits
- Medical and dental expenses not paid by insurance
- Total cash, checking, savings, cash value of stocks, etc.
- Total number of family members living in the household and primarily supported by the reported income
- Marital status of parent or guardian
- Of the total number of family members, number of students attending college at least half-time during the next school year
Important: If you do not disclose financial information, you will not be considered for the awards that require financial need to be demonstrated. Carefully read the eligibility criteria for each award listed.
Financial need is primarily determined by calculating the amount a family can reasonably be expected to contribute toward their child’s education using a process that is very similar to the federal methodology (FASFA). All financial components listed on the application are taken into consideration.
When filling out the application, enter what school you think you be attending. Once recipients are selected and notified, school choices can be changed at that time.
