The William Gawor Perpetual Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to The William Gawor Perpetual Scholarship Program must be:

  • High school seniors from Bayonne High School or Rahway High School in New Jersey.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year university for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Planning to major in a STEM* field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) of study in college.
*This includes STEM programs or those which include elements of STEM. For example, Criminal Justice study requires knowledge of science and an understanding of technology used in the field. Applicants with questions regarding the eligibility of their field of study should refer the question to Scholarship America through their guidance counselor.
  • Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (or the equivalent).

Awards

  • Up to eights awards (four per school) of $5,000 each will be granted.
  • Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever comes first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The William Gawor Estate. Payments are made in early August.

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • A positive attitude essay
  • An online recommendation from a school official, mentor or supervisor

Financial need will not be considered. Awards will be strictly based on merit.

Scholarship America will select thirty finalists (fifteen per school) and each high school will select four recipients. In no instance does any officer or employee of The William Gawor Perpetual Scholarship Fund play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
