This scholarship was created to support students who live in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota and have shown courage in dealing with epilepsy, commitment to their education, and perseverance in eliminating the obstacles that epilepsy may present. Selection is based on how the applicant has navigated challenges due to epilepsy, their career goals, achievements, etc.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Elam Baer and Janis Clay Scholarship must:
*Certification programs must be through an accredited institution. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and recipients must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,500 award. Up to 10 awards will be granted. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Awards can be used for certificates, undergraduate or graduate study.
All applicants will be notified in late-July.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Elam Baer and Janis
Clay. Payment is made in August.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any family member of Elam Baer and Janis Clay play a part in the selection.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
Students must submit a completed Diagnosis Verification Form. This form must be printed, completed, and signed by your healthcare professional to confirm you are living with epilepsy. The completed form must be uploaded with your application by the application deadline date. No exceptions will be permitted.
