Boston Scientific Foundation Scholarship

The Boston Scientific Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist dependent children of full-time employees, based in the United States or Puerto Rico, pursuing higher education at a two- or four-year college or university within the United States and Puerto Rico.

Boston Scientific Foundation Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Boston Scientific Foundation Scholarship must:

  • Be dependent* children, under age 26, of full-time Boston Scientific employees that are based in the United States or Puerto Rico, who have a minimum of 12 consecutive months of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
    *Dependent children include those of the employee or their spouse or domestic partner for whom they are financially responsible, as well as natural, adopted, step-children and legal wards.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current post-secondary undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university within the United States or Puerto Rico for the entire upcoming academic year.

The following individuals are not eligible to apply:

    • Boston Scientific employees
    • Dependent children of a member of the Boston Scientific Board of Directors
    • Dependent children of a Boston Scientific Corporate Officer
    • Dependent children of a member of the Boston Scientific Foundation Board of Directors
    • Dependent children of a Foundation Administrator or Program Officer
    • Grandchildren of employees

Awards

Awards ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 will be granted, as follows:

  • Boston Scientific Foundation Scholarship – This scholarship provides awards up to $3,000 a year for recipients attending a US based four-year college/university or up to $1,500 a year for recipients attending US based two-year colleges/universities.
  • John Abele Scholarship – The John Abele scholarship provides awards up to $5,000 a year. Up to three John Abele scholarships will be awarded annually.
  • Pete Nicholas Scholarship – The Pete Nicholas scholarship provides awards up to $5,000 a year. Up to three Pete Nicholas scholarships will be awarded annually.

Students selected to receive the John Abele or Pete Nicholas Scholarships will receive only one type of award.

Awards are renewable up to three years or until an associate’s or bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued status as a full-time student.

In accordance with IRS regulations, the number of scholarships granted will be equal to or less than twenty-five percent (25%) of eligible applications received. These awards will be administered in full compliance with IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47.

Scholarship funds may only be used for tuition and academic fees and may not be used for room, board, books, or non-academic fees.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Volunteer experience
  • Statement of career and educational goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Financial need will be considered
  • Applications being completed by the student and submitted online by the deadline
  • An additional essay will also be evaluated for the John Abele Scholarship
  • An additional essay will also be evaluated for the Pete Nicholas Scholarship

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the Boston Scientific Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in early May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients, as Boston Scientific has a defined budget.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Boston Scientific Foundation, to the attention of the educational institute. Payments are made in one installment in August and mailed to the student’s home address. The scholarship amount is based on full-time attendance and is subject to change if the student’s status is no longer full-time.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information section of the application (Please black out all social security numbers and bank account information) OR your FAFSA report showing the Student Aid Index (SAI) number.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
