Basin Electric Power Cooperative has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative & Subsidiaries Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative & Subsidiaries Scholarship Program award must:

  • Be dependent* children, age 25 and under, of full-time or part-time employees of Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) or its subsidiaries as of the application deadline.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.

Awards

Up to 25 awards will be granted in the amount of $1,000 each as follows (Assuming there are qualified applicants):

  • Up to five (5) awards will be designated for two-year college and vocational-technical students, assuming there are qualified applicants. Preference will be given to students majoring in welding, drafting, power plant tech, electrical tech, process plant tech, instrumentation, diesel mechanic, bio-fuels, computer science, GIS, lab tech, administrative assistant, or lineman.
  • Up to five (5) awards will be designated for students majoring in engineering.
  • Up to five (5) awards will be designated for students majoring in Business Administration or Accounting.
  • The remaining awards will be designated for applicants who demonstrate a desire for a career in any field that supports cooperative business.
  • If there are no qualified applicants for the designated awards, these scholarships will be granted to the next ranked highest applicants.

The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Basin Electric Power Cooperative play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Awards will be paid in one installment in early August.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 6, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
