Avaya has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.
Avaya/CWA/IBEW Academic Awards Program
Avaya, CWA, and IBEW have long been committed to education. Innovative community educational programs are supported and the tuition for several employees is reimbursed — consistent with our commitment to “personal growth and continuous learning.” The Program carries this commitment further by providing scholarships for children of Avaya represented employees who are pursuing undergraduate degrees. Students who apply must have participated in volunteer service activities and projects in their communities or schools. These awards make a significant statement to youth about the importance of intellectual development and community involvement.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Avaya/CWA/IBEW Academic Awards Program must be:
- Dependent children* of regular full-time and part-time CWA/IBEW represented Avaya employees (domestic and U.S. expatriate) who have completed six (6) months of continuous service with Avaya as of the scholarship application deadline date. Parent employees must remain employed by Avaya at the time awards are announced.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee. - Current HS seniors planning to enroll for the first time (beginning Fall 2026) in a course of study leading to a baccalaureate degree at a regionally accredited 4-yr college or university or an associate degree at a regionally accredited 2-yr junior or community college in the U.S.
- Students who have achieved a cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must provide an official school transcript of grades.
Note: Children of occupational employees represented by CWA and IBEW are eligible. Employees as well as children of employees (other than U.S. International Assignees) in Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, Guam, and other U.S., Territory or possession, are not covered by the program.
Awards
Scholarship awards of up to $8,000 each for one academic year of full-time study will be granted to children of represented employees. The number of recipients is dependent on the number of eligible students who apply.
Recipients are expected to enroll in a full-time (as determined by the individuals’ college) undergraduate course of study no later than the Fall 2026.
Award Renewals
The award may be renewed each year for not more than four years or until a degree is earned, whichever comes first. Recipients can receive the award a maximum of four times. Renewal of awards requires a 2.75 cumulative grade point average, continued parental employment (Avaya), and adherence to the student code of conduct.
Notification
All applicants will be notified in March.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Avaya. Payment is made in August.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic performance(cumulative grade point average and rank-in-class)
- Volunteer service
- Work experience
- Statement of goals and objectives
Financial need is not considered.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Avaya play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
