In response to the devastating floods that struck Central Texas on July 4, 2025, Jason Schmer and Angela Salas have established a scholarship for high school seniors or graduates in select Texas counties planning to pursue a degree that will allow them to contribute to the prevention of such tragedies in the future.

Angels of the Guadalupe Memorial Scholarship

In response to the devastating floods that struck Central Texas on July 4, 2025, Jason Schmer and Angela Salas have established a scholarship for high school seniors or graduates in select Texas counties planning to pursue a degree that will allow them to contribute to the prevention of such tragedies in the future.

The scholarship is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Angels of the Guadalupe Memorial Scholarship must:

  • Be high school seniors or graduates who have not yet started college coursework, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Attend or attended high school in one of the following Texas counties:
Bandera Kerr Menard
Bexar Kimble San Saba
Blanco Lampasas Tom Green
Burnet Llano Travis
Gillespie Mason Williamson
Kendall McCulloch
  • Plan to pursue a degree in:
Atmospheric Science Geology
Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering
Climate Science Mechanical Engineering
Construction Engineering and Management Meteorology
Environmental Engineering Structural Engineering

Awards

If selected as the recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. One award will be granted.

The award is one-time only and is not renewable. Past recipients may not reapply.

The award is for undergraduate study only.

Jason Schmer and Angela Salas may contact recipients for purposes of event invitations or other opportunities.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the scholarship email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Jason Schmer and Angela Salas.

Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • An online recommendation
  • Two essays

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. Scholarship America will select finalists and an independent selection committee will select the recipient. Not all applicants to the scholarship will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 9, 2026, 3:00 PM Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
