As the nation’s largest scholarship administrator, Scholarship America continues to seek out ways to better fulfill our mission of eliminating barriers to educational success. To help deliver awards in the most timely, secure, and transparent way possible, we’re excited to announce that we have selected Flywire as the technology vendor for our new electronic payment processing system.
As a leading payments provider in the education market, Flywire is uniquely positioned to supply Scholarship America with a powerful direct-to-school disbursement network and direct-to-recipient electronic payments. This partnership will allow us to begin providing direct electronic payments for students attending more than 800 institutions within Flywire’s disbursement network.
Additionally, we are actively working with Flywire to expand the number of institutions in that network, allowing more students to benefit.
Currently, Scholarship America disburses more than 110,000 paper checks each year to students and institutions. Evolving to primarily electronic payments helps us meet students where they are, reflecting both market expectations and Scholarship America’s commitment to continuous improvement and student support. Scholarship America selected Flywire after extensive evaluation because of its:
First and foremost, the shift to electronic payments is a win for our student scholarship recipients. They will receive their funds faster, without worrying about checks that are lost or delayed in the mail. Funds will be delivered directly to their institutional accounts, ensuring that there are no delays in registration or billing, and built-in tools allow for fast, easy updates if students’ enrollment plans change.
In addition, payment status updates will flow back into Scholarship America’s student-facing platform, meaning recipients will be able to track payment status and receive notifications throughout the process—and they’ll never have to wonder “where is my scholarship payment?”
More broadly, this transition provides a better, more secure experience for all stakeholders. Scholarship sponsors will see increased visibility and reporting, fewer administrative issues, and stronger student outcomes thanks to the faster, more reliable delivery of funds. The payment disbursement process will be faster, more cost-effective and more secure. And direct institutional payments will reduce back-office processing and potential delays impacting colleges.
