Achieve Atlanta Emergency Grant

Achieve Atlanta has established a grant program for eligible or active AATL scholars currently enrolled in school who are experiencing a financial difficulty that may negatively impact their enrollment in college.

Achieve Atlanta Emergency Grant

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Achieve Atlanta Emergency Grant must:

  • Be a current AATL ‘active’* Scholar or be deemed eligible by AATL
    • Applicants NOT on the original master list of eligible applicants will be escalated
      back to AATL to determine eligibility
  • Be currently enrolled in school at the time of application
  • Have an unexpected eligible financial expense that may impact enrollment or persistence in school
  • Upload documents to verify identity and eligible expenses (e.g. bills, invoices, receipts)

*An AATL ‘active’ Scholar is defined as a Scholar who is enrolled and receiving AATL scholarship funds for the current semester. AATL will provide SAI with the list of eligible ‘active’ Scholars.

Eligible Expenses

AATL will provide SAI a list of specific eligible expense categories and guidelines as needs and priorities change. These specific eligible expenses will fall into the following broad categories:

  • Housing
  • Utilities
  • Medical/Dental
  • Childcare
  • Transportation
  • Moving
  • Internet/Wi-Fi
  • Food ($300 maximum grant)
  • Other as determined by AATL

Ineligible expenses

  • Tuition and fees
  • Non-essential travel, including Study Abroad
  • Technology
  • Books
  • Extra Spending Money Not Associated with an Emergency Expense

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a grant of up to $500 per request. (or $300 if requesting assistance with food expenses).

A recipient may receive no more than one emergency grant per academic year. Each grant may cover only one approved emergency-expense request unless AATL authorizes an exception in writing.

Notification

Applicants will receive first contact and/or approval within one (1) business day of submitting an application.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Whenever reasonably possible, grant payments shall be made directly to the entity or
vendor to whom payment is owed. If direct payment is not feasible, SAI may utilize an
alternative approved payment method.

Grants may be considered taxable income. Recipients should work with a tax professional to determine whether or not their grant is taxable.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Ability to demonstrate need as defined by the program requirements
  • Meeting the basic eligibility requirements
  • The availability of funds

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the Achieve Atlanta play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

  • Proof of postsecondary enrollment
  • Documentation of financial emergency
