Funded by Bilt and singer-songwriter John Legend and administered by Scholarship America, this program provides housing security grants to students.
Most students who leave college do not leave because of grades. They leave because a sudden car repair, a medical bill, a lost paycheck, or an unexpected rent increase hits them at the worst possible time.
The Bilt + John Legend Scholarship for Student Housing Security exists to close that gap. Grants are one-time, need-based, and paid quickly so students can stay enrolled and finish what they started.

Bilt + John Legend Scholarship for Student Housing Security
A stable place to live shouldn’t be the thing standing between you and your degree.
The gap between what financial aid covers and what housing actually costs pushes too many students to the edge. The Bilt + John Legend Scholarship for Student Housing Security provides $850 awards to help students at four partner institutions cover off-campus housing expenses and stay focused on school.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled at one of the following schools (verified with a university email address and current course schedule):
- University of Pennsylvania
- Morehouse College
- Central State University
- Wilberforce University
- Living off campus and able to provide documentation verifying eligible rent expense payable to an unrelated third party (not a spouse, domestic partner, or other family member)
- Experiencing housing insecurity that may negatively impact enrollment
- Receiving need-based aid
Awards
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an $850 award.
Scholarship America processes payments on behalf of Bilt Technologies, Inc. Awards are payable to the student via electronic payment or check.
Awards are to be used for off-campus housing expenses.
Awards may be considered taxable income. Recipients should consult a tax professional to determine whether their award is taxable.
Notifications
Applications are reviewed and recipients are notified in the order they are received.
All applicants will be notified of their status via email.

Applications open September 25 and close October 8 at 4:00 pm ET or until all available funds have been awarded, whichever occurs first.
