Subway Cares Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

Subway® Fresh Start Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Subway® Fresh Start Scholarship Program must:

  • Have been a Subway® restaurant full-time or part-time employee at a location in an eligible country* for at least six (6) continuous months as of the application deadline date.

    Canada
    Australia
    Puerto Rico
    England
    Wales
    Scotland
    Northern Ireland
    Ireland
    Mexico
    Germany
    New Zealand
  • Be a high school senior/student in their final year of upper or higher secondary school, a graduate, or a current technical or college/university undergraduate student. This includes CGEP students.
  • Be a student in good standing.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time or part-time** undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical* school for the entire upcoming academic year.

*Certificate programs must be through an accredited institution. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and recipients must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August.

**Part-time is defined as a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester or equivalent.

Franchisee owners and their children or dependents who meet all the above criteria are eligible to participate in the program.

The following individuals, whether or not they are able to meet the above criteria, are not eligible to participate in the program:

  • Subway® restaurants employee in geographies (or countries) other than those specified above.
  • Employees of Franchise World Headquarters, LLC and their family members.

Awards

Scholarship America awards the scholarship without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.

Subway Cares Foundation has the sole discretion to determine the amount of the scholarship award each year and the target number of scholarships to be awarded under the Program for such year.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to 250 awards will be granted.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study or vocational-technical certificate programs only.

Awards are for qualified education-related expenses only (tuition, fees, books, and required supplies/equipment).

Award amounts are listed in U.S. dollars (USD) and award payments will be issued in USD. Recipients may choose to receive award payments in their local currency when available.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Subway Cares Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Financial need
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation by a store manager or franchisee owner
  • Essay response* (maximum of 200 words)

Financial need will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate need.

Academic evaluation will include a review of the grade/mark average based on the grading system used in the applicant’s country and a review of the results of academic examinations.

Application Process Note for students outside of the U.S.: While completing the application Profile, there is a request for GPA on a 4.0 scale. If your grading system does not use the 4.0 GPA scale, you can enter “0” to continue completing the Profile and application.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Subway Cares Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

*Essay Topic:

How will receiving this scholarship support your long term career goals and empower you to make a meaningful difference within your community? Please share specific examples or experiences that illustrate your plans and impact.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf by your Manager or Franchise Owner no later than three business days after the application deadline date.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
