Kaiser Permanente Deloras Jones RN Scholarship Program - Southern Region

Since 1989, Kaiser Permanente has assisted California students complete their nursing education through its RN Scholarship Program. In 2001, the Deloras Jones RN Scholarship Program was created in honor of Deloras Jones, RN, MN, for her 34 years of leadership and dedication to education and nursing practice at Kaiser Permanente. Awards are available for approved study at affiliate schools in Southern California.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Deloras Jones RN Scholarship Program must:

  • Not be an employee or affiliated with Kaiser Permanente.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Non-U.S. citizens must submit a photocopy of their Permanent Resident Card. Student visas or temporary Employment Authorizations are not accepted.
  • Be enrolled in one of the Pre-approved Kaiser Permanente Affiliate Nursing Programs.
  • Be a California resident residing in Southern California
  • Be enrolled in an accredited school in a Southern California BRN approved Associate Degree in Nursing(ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or entry-level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN/MN).
    OR
  • Be enrolled in a CCNE accredited post-graduate Master of Science in Nursing (MSN, MN) or Doctoral Program in Nursing (PhD, DNSc, or DNP).
  • Have completed at least one academic term (semester/quarter or its equivalent) or nursing program coursework including at least one clinical nursing course with a clinical rotation (not a lab course) by August 1, 2026.
  • Part-time applicants will be reviewed and considered but preference is given to students enrolled full-time for the upcoming academic year as deemed by the nursing program.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) as of August 1, 2026:
    • 3.5 GPA: Academic Excellence – Pre-licensure (Students enrolled in CA BRN approved ADN, BSN, entry-level MSN or RN-to-BSN programs.)
    • 3.5 GPA: Graduate Studies (Registered Nurses pursuing an MSN or MN degree.)
    • 3.5 GPA: Doctoral Studies (Registered Nurses pursuing DNSc, PhD, DNP or other qualified doctoral programs, if the applicant has an MSN/MN degree.)
    • 2.5 GPA: Affiliate Schools (Must have completed a minimum of one clinical nursing course with a clinical rotation course (not a lab course) in an affiliate college that sends students to a Kaiser Permanente facility for clinical rotations.)
  • Expect to graduate no earlier than December 31, 2026.

LVN and NP certificate programs are not eligible.

Awards

Scholarships will be awarded in the following categories if there are qualified applicants and adequate funding is available:

  • $2,000: Academic Excellence – Pre-licensure (Students enrolled in CA BRN approved ADN, BSN, entry-level MSN or RN-to-BSN programs.)
  • $2,500: Graduate Studies (Registered Nurses pursuing an MSN or MN degree.)
  • $3,000: Doctoral Studies (Registered Nurses pursuing DNSc, PhD, DNP or other qualified doctoral programs.)
  • $1,000: Affiliate Schools (Must have completed a minimum of one clinical nursing course with a clinical rotation course (not a lab course) in an affiliate college that sends students to a Kaiser Permanente facility for clinical rotations.)

Preference is given to students enrolled full-time for the upcoming academic year as deemed by the nursing program.

Awards are for education related expenses and are one-time only. Previous recipients of this program are not eligible to apply.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in November. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Kaiser Permanente. Payment is made in one installment for education-related expenses. The check will be made payable to the school and distributed to recipients in early December 2026.

Selection of Recipients

The evaluation and selection of recipients will be based primarily on financial need. Scholarship America will evaluate and rank all applicants by level of expected financial contribution and cumulative GPA, and Kaiser Permanente will review rankings and applications and will select recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision of Kaiser Permanente and Scholarship America as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • Transcript: A current, complete transcript(s) for all college coursework related to nursing. Transcripts can be removed from the envelope to upload and must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Relevant coursework may include your current program, prerequisite courses, and/or previous degree programs that were taken into account when applying to your current program. Your transcript(s) must include your GPA and must reflect at least one academic term and one clinical nursing course with a clinical rotation (not a lab course) completed by August 1, 2026. If your school does not use a traditional 4.00 GPA grading system, please provide your school’s grading scale explanation.
  • Enrollment Form:  A completed Confirmation of Acceptance or Enrollment Form (click here to view and print). A letter of acceptance from your school is not acceptable and does not replace this requirement.
  • Financial:  A copy of the first two pages of the 1040 tax forms used to report the financial information on the application for which you appear as a taxpayer or dependent.
  • Other:  If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must also upload a photocopy of your Permanent Resident Card. Students with visas or temporary Employment Authorizations are not accepted.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
