NW Natural Scholarship Program

NW Natural has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

NW Natural Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the NW Natural Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, age 25 and under, of active, regular, full-time or part-time employees of Northwest Natural Gas Company, or its subsidiaries, who are regularly scheduled to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, are eligible for the health and welfare benefits package, and who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
  • High school seniors or graduates or current post-secondary undergraduates.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

*Dependent children are children who qualify for health benefits provided by the company. Grandchildren are not eligible for this scholarship program.

Awards

Award Information

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,250 to $2,500.

Up to four (4) awards will be granted. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in August. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of NW Natural. Payment is made in one installment in late August. A check is mailed to each recipient’s home address made payable to the school for the student.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of NW Natural Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision of Scholarship America as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

      NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
