CHS McPherson Refinery Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program

CHS McPherson Refinery Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist dependent children of CHS McPherson refinery employees who plan to continue their education in college, vocational or technical school programs. Scholarships are offered for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice for the upcoming school year.

CHS McPherson Refinery Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants must be dependent* children, age 25 or younger, of full-time CHS McPherson Refinery Inc. employees. The employee must have at least one year of continuous employment with the company by the application deadline.
*Dependent children are defined as natural, legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.

Applicants must be already enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time course of study in one of the following:

  • Undergraduate Program at an accredited four-year college or university and completed at least two years of coursework with a minimum of 48 credit hours.

OR

  • A trade-related field at an accredited community college, junior college, vocational or technical school and completed at least one year of course work with a minimum of 24 credit hours.

Nonrecipients may be eligible to receive a CHS McPherson Inc Education Assistance Program award. The eligibility requirements for the this award are as follows:

  • Applicants must be dependent* children, age 25 and under, of full-time CHS McPherson Refinery employees who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Applicants must already be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university as a junior or senior for the upcoming academic year. Eligibility is also extended to students pursuing a course of study in a trade-related field at an accredited community college, junior college or vocational or technical school who have completed a full year of course work at that institution.

Awards

CHS McPherson Refinery Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program Awards:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $3,000. Up to 15 awards will be granted.

CHS McPherson Inc Education Assistance Program:
Awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 will be granted. Award level will be determined by overall grade point average.

  • Recipients with a GPA of 2.5 to 3.0 will receive a $1,000 award
  • Recipients with a GPA of 3.0 to 3.5 will receive a $1,500 award
  • Recipients with a GPA of 3.5 to 4.0 will receive a $2,000 award

Education Assistance awards may be considered taxable income. Recipients must submit a completed W-9 and will receive a 1099-MISC. Students are encouraged to consult a tax professional regarding tax implications if needed.

Awards for either programs are not renewable, however, students may reapply each year they meet eligibility requirements. A student may receive a maximum of two awards.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late June.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of CHS McPherson Refinery Inc. Payments are made in one installment in early August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of cumulative GPA only. Financial need will not be considered.

Students not selected as recipients in the scholarship program will be eligible to receive an education-assistance award. Awards will be determined by GPA

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
