The New York Chapter of the ALA has established a scholarship program to assist children of select active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired members of the United States military who plan to continue their education in college.
The New York Chapter of the American Logistics Association (ALA) has established a scholarship program to assist children of select active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired members of the United States military who plan to continue their education in college. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
As of 2024, the Military Commanders’ Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $740,000 in scholarships to qualified students.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Military Commanders’ Scholarship Fund must:
The estimated authorized annual distribution for new awards is $50,000. Provided there are qualified applicants, two (2) $5,000 awards will be granted per branch of service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard).
Awards are one-time only and not renewable.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
The first 100 applicants will be notified in July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the New York Chapter of the ALA. Payments are made in one installment in August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
Financial need will be considered. Recipients will be selected from a pool of qualified applicants with consideration given to those who demonstrate the greatest need.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the New York Chapter of the ALA play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 12, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.
