Student Volunteer Award

The Student Volunteer Award is a collection of named scholarship awards established to assist student volunteers who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

Student Volunteer Award

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Student Volunteer Award must:

  • Be graduating high school seniors
  • Be a part of a Dollars for Scholars supported service area and have applied for a Dollars for Scholars scholarship.
  • Have community service/volunteer experience within four years as of the application deadline
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Plan to attend an accredited two-year, four-year college or university, or a vocational-technical college in a full time course of study for the entire upcoming academic year

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $1,500. Up to twelve (12) awards will be granted.

Awards are one-time only.

Recipients can only receive one student volunteer award.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Sponsor. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate financial need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Programs and Funds

The Charles E. Palmer Scholarship Fund

  • 1 award of $1,000

Charles Scher Endowed Scholarship Program

  • Self-identify as male
  • 1 award of $1,000
  • Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference given to those who participated in high school athletics

John K. Lally Fund

  • Reside in a service area supported by a New England Dollars for Scholars Chapter*
  • 1 award of $1,000 will be granted
  • *New England is defined as Dollars for Scholars Chapters in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Joseph M. and Barbara B. Hinchey Scholarship Program

  • 1 award of $1,500
  • Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to a recipient who plans to pursue a degree in Art and Archeology, Landscape Architecture, or Design and Horticulture/Botany

The Morin Scholarship Fund

  • Reside in a service area supported by a Connecticut or New Hampshire Dollars for Scholars Chapter
  • 2 awards of $1,000

Robson Scholarship Fund

  • Reside in a service area supported by a Minnesota Dollars for Scholars Chapter
  • 1 award of $1,000

The Scholarship America Student Volunteer Award Fund

  • 4 awards of $1,000

The William and Margret Nelsen Scholarship Program

  • 1 award of $1,000

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 4, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.
