Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship

Milliman has established a scholarship program to assist current undergraduates at a sophomore level or above who have successfully completed at least two actuarial exams and plan to continue their education college or university.

Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship must:

  • Be a current college undergraduate with a minimum sophomore standing
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States (U.S.) for the upcoming academic year*.
  • Must have successfully completed at least two actuarial exams
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

*Students graduating mid-year (after Fall term 2025) may be considered for a half-award

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards can be used for any education-related expenses.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Milliman. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Finalists

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A 500-word essay*
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances, if applicable
  • Two letters of recommendation:
    • One letter from an employer (current or previous)
    • One letter from a professor or advisor

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America and Milliman will select recipients. Evidence of commitment to the actuarial field must be demonstrated to be selected as a recipient. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • A minimum of TWO copies of actuarial exam results you’ve taken. Additional exam results above the required two are optional.
  • TWO letters of reference:
    • One letter from an employer (current or previous)
    • One letter from a professor or advisor

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
