Crete Carrier Corporation Scholarship Program for Dependents
Acklie Charitable Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ dependent children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
Crete Carrier Corporation Scholarship Program for Dependents
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Eligibility
Applicants of the Crete Carrier Corporation Scholarship Program for Dependents must be:
- Dependent children*, age 26 and under, of part-time and full-time employees of Crete Carrier Corporation and related companies** who have a minimum of one year of continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
- High school seniors, graduates, GED recipients, or current postsecondary undergraduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in part-time or full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
Children/dependents of owner-operators driving for Crete or its affiliated companies are also eligible.
Recipients of the Dodie Acklie Nakajima Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Acklie Charitable Foundation Southeast Community College Scholarship are not eligible to receive an award in this program the same academic year they receive an award from either of these other scholarship programs.
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step-, or legally adopted children or grandchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
**For the purposes of this scholarship, employees include office, shop, and driver employees of Crete, Hunt, and Shaffer; owner-operator drivers who drive for Crete, Hunt, or Shaffer; and employees of Electronic Contracting or Capitol Casualty.
Awards
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,000 to $8,000.
Financial need will be considered in determining the award amount. Recipients must demonstrate need.
Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Maximum lifetime awards per recipient may not exceed $32,000.
The program will be administered in full compliance with IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47.
Per IRS requirements, the scholarship is competitive and no more than 25% of the eligible applicants will receive an award.
Any award received from this scholarship may be applied to qualified tuition and education-related expenses, which includes tuition, fees, and books. Per IRS regulations, these awards cannot be used to pay for room and board.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Notification
Applicants will be notified in April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Acklie Charitable Foundation. Awards will be paid in two installments—in August and December.
Award payment in December is contingent upon the student’s continued enrollment in a part-time or full-time course of study. Students will be required to provide proof of enrollment prior to receiving their second payment.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
- An online recommendation
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Acklie Charitable Foundation, Crete Carrier, Shaffer Trucking, Hunt Transportation, Electronic Contracting, or Capitol Casualty Company play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Requirements
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
- Student name
- School name
- Grades
- Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
- Optional: Supplemental Financial Data Form, if applicable. This form is needed only if parents cannot submit data jointly on the electronic application. The parent who is NOT the employee of Crete Carrier Corporation/related companies should complete this supplemental form.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 3, 2026, 3:00 PM Central Time.
