We Energies and WPS Foundations Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program

The mission of the We Energies and WPS Foundations Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to children of active and retired employees to help them defray the costs associated with sending their children to post-secondary educational institutions. Competitive scholarships will be granted to eligible applicants to assist them attend the school of their choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the We Energies and WPS Foundations Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent children*, age 24 or younger, of part-time or full-time active or retired employees of We Energies, WPS, Michigan Gas Utilities, Minnesota Energy Resources or Bluewater Gas Storage whose primary work location is in the We Energies, WPS, MGU, Minnesota Energy Resources or Bluewater Gas Storage service area, and who have a minimum of one (1) year employment as of the application deadline date.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or postsecondary freshmen, sophomores or juniors who already are enrolled, in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. Students graduating mid-year may apply; however, the award will be one-half the full-time award amount.

*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the active or retired employee.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award and top ranking students will receive a $5,000 award.

Awards are renewable up to three (3) years until a degree or certificate is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and the continuation of the program by the sponsor. Renewal students may not decline their award and reapply to the program for a larger award amount.

Awards are for undergraduate study only, and are for qualified education-related expenses only (tuition, fees, books and required supplies).

Notification

Applicants will be notified mid-April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please make sure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Work experience
  • Honors
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • An online recommendation is also required.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the We Energies and WPS Foundations become involved in the selection process.

Payment of Scholarships

On behalf of the We Energies and WPS Foundations, Scholarship America will pay scholarship awards in early August.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
  • Student name
  • School name
  • Grades
  • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 19, 2026 3:00 PM Central Time.
