Alliant Energy Innovation Scholarship Program

To encourage innovation and creative problem solving, Alliant Energy offers a scholarship program for students pursuing a career in a craft/skilled trade or in applied sciences, technology, engineering and math fields upon high school graduation.

Alliant Energy Innovation Scholarship Program

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Alliant Energy Innovation Scholarship Program must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. resident residing within the Alliant Energy service territory at the time of application
  • Be a dependent child of a current customer in good standing or a current customer in good standing of one of Alliant Energy’s utility subsidiaries (Interstate Power and Light Co. or Wisconsin Power and Light Co.)
  • Be age 24 or under, enrolling for the first time* in full-time undergraduate study in a craft/skilled trade (examples include but are not limited to Electrical Power Distribution, Gas Utility Construction and Service, and Welding) or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school located within the Alliant Energy Corporation service territory (Iowa and Wisconsin) for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average between 2.5 and 4.00 on a 4.00 scale (or equivalent)

*High school seniors who are taking/have taken post-secondary college courses prior to graduating from high school are considered eligible.

Employees of Alliant Energy Corporation, Scholarship America, their subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies and the immediate family (spouses, parents, children or siblings and their spouses) and persons living in the same household of such employees who are employed at the time of application are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award.  Up to twenty-five (25) awards will be granted.

Awards are one-time only and are not renewable.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late March.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Alliant Energy for the Innovation Scholarship Program. Payment is made in one installment in June.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Their pursuit of a career in a craft/skilled trade (examples include but are not limited to Electrical Power Distribution, Gas Utility Construction and Service, and Welding) or in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math).
  • Leadership role in community service activities and volunteer service work
  • Academic grade point average
  • Content of a 350-word essay

Financial need is not considered.

Recipients are selected by Scholarship America. All information received is considered confidential.  In no instance does any officer or employee of Alliant Energy play a part in the selection. Decisions are final and are not subject to appeal.  The program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.

Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
