Scholarship America Elects Three to Board of Trustees

Board additions include Fortune 100 executive; two former Scholarship America scholarship recipients

MINNEAPOLIS (March 24, 2017) – Scholarship America®, the nation’s leading nonprofit scholarship and educational support organization, is pleased to announce the election of three new members to its national Board of Trustees. They are:

  • Charlene Hinton, IT Risk Assurance Consultant, Ernst & Young, San Francisco, CA
  • Michael Maney, Senior Director, Communications, Target, Minneapolis, MN
  • Joseph Palombo, Senior Accountant, Tiptree Financial, New York, NY

Charlene Hinton , IT Risk Assurance Consultant at Ernst & Young, received an inaugural Dream Award scholarship from Scholarship America in 2014. The Dream Award is a renewable scholarship for financially needy students entering their second year or higher of education beyond high school.  In 2015, she finished in the top 10% of her graduating class at Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Informational Management and Technology, Summa Cum Laude.

Michael Maney is responsible for Target’s internal communications, reaching hundreds of thousands of team members worldwide. Most recently, he led communications for Sony Pictures Television across Asia, Australia, Latin America and Canada. Prior to that, he was responsible for internal communications for The Walt Disney Company’s global TV business, which includes the ABC Television Network and Disney Channels Worldwide.

Joseph Palombo is responsible for corporate accounting for various subsidiaries of New York’s Tiptree Financial, and brings his years of financial experience to the Scholarship America board. The son of a New York City firefighter, Joe and seven of his siblings attended college in part thanks to Scholarship America’s Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students who lost a loved one in the 9/11 attacks and rescue efforts.
