Partner Spotlight: Katie Couric
Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric has been a dedicated supporter and partner of Scholarship America since 2011, when she pledged to donate the proceeds from her first book, The Best Advice I Ever Got, to support students.
That donation served as the initial seed funding for the Scholarship America Dream Award — our unique scholarship program, focused on completion, that provides renewable and growing awards to students in their second year of college and beyond.
The first class of Dream Award recipients was announced in May 2014 on Katie’s nationally syndicated talk show. Those students were honored, and the 2015 class announced, at our inaugural Dreams to Degrees event in May 2015 — at which Katie was honored for her support.
The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons From Extraordinary Lives is a collection of essays, poems and advice from A-listers in business, entertainment and politics geared toward encouraging college graduates to think about their futures. In addition, the book features two Scholarship America scholarship recipients, and a foreword by our founder, Dr. Irving Fradkin (who also appeared on Katie’s talk show).
“Scholarship America changes lives every day by helping students afford a college education,” Couric said. “Because my book offers inspirational advice from some amazing people on how to succeed in life, Scholarship America is the perfect partner organization for this project.”
