Scholarship America Dream Award

Founded in 2011 with a significant donation from Katie Couric, the Dream Award is a unique, renewable scholarship fund aimed at seeing students through to completion. Awards are given to remarkable students entering their second year or higher of education beyond high school, based on the fact that too often scholarships are only offered in their freshman year. The scholarships grow in amount each year, ensuring that recipients have the ongoing support they need.

“We need to make sure our scholarships see students through to graduation, instead of just supporting them their first year,” said Scholarship America President & CEO Lauren Segal when announcing the first application season. “It is a real tragedy for students, parents, donors and institutions when students drop out before they can complete their degree.”

Awards range up to $15,000 per year for Dream Award recipients, based on their need. Your support of this program makes an immediate impact: more degrees for more students.

Dreamkeepers: Emergency Financial Assistance

Founded in 2005 as the Dreamkeepers program, Scholarship America’s Emergency Financial Assistance program has grown into a national retention and capacity building program for participating colleges and other partners. The concept is simple: provide emergency grants to students faced with unexpected financial setbacks that threaten to derail their education.

Emergency financial assistance provides a safety net for students who may be forced to drop out due to a financial emergency. Through grants ranging from $100 to $1,000, our program empowers students to overcome financial emergencies. It also connects students to other support systems within their colleges, and provides financial literacy resources to help teach critical financial management skills and techniques.
