Featured Partner Scholarships: October/November 2020
By Matt Konrad
The school year may have just begun, but the season for scholarship application is in full swing already. Prestigious, national programs expect to see thousands of applicants, and many of them start their application process early in the year, giving them time to process and evaluate a wide range of applications.
Scholarship America’s featured programs this month definitely fall into that category: both of these scholarships provide the kind of generous funding that will make a huge difference for recipients: full tuition in one case, up to $40,000 over four years in the other. If you’re an outstanding student interested in leadership and public service, don’t miss out on these opportunities.
SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program
The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program was established as a way of connecting talented, innovative scientists, engineers and researchers with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) workforce. The program is an opportunity for students pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be employed as a civilian in a Department of Defense (DoD) lab or facility upon graduation.
While in school, SMART Scholars receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, and summer internships that range from 8 to 12 weeks. Upon degree completion, scholars begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring DoD facility. The internships and work experience allow scholars the opportunity to learn from the greatest minds in STEM and defense. Not only do scholars pursue their passions in their respective field during their educational phase, but they begin a journey towards an empowering career.
For over a decade, SMART Scholars have been working within DoD labs and agencies to support national security. If you’re interested becoming a SMART Scholar and you are pursuing a bachelor, masters, or PhD in one of 21 eligible STEM fields, visit smartscholarship.org today to learn more.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program offers $10,000 renewable scholarships — up to $40,000 each — to numerous students annually. This national program is open to current high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship similar to that of our nation’s 40th President. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program has been recognized by Forbes and U.S. News and World Report as a premier national scholarship program. Since its inception, it has committed more than $7 million to 185 students attending 110 college campuses nationwide.
Like President Reagan, candidates use the formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve, and pursue a life of purpose and significance, both individually and for their communities. Awards are for full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support in college and beyond. Follow the program on Facebook for updates.
