AbbVie Immunology Scholarship

Since 2016, the AbbVie Immunology Scholarship has been helping reduce the financial burden of college for students impacted by inflammatory diseases. The program extends AbbVie’s passion for patient care by empowering students as they pursue a degree and a life that is not defined by their disease.

Recipients of the AbbVie Immunology Scholarship make an impact at their schools and in their communities. They’re students like Yhan, whose pursuit of a combined medical and master’s of public health degree is both complicated and inspired by his diagnosis: “When I started college as a first-generation, low-income student in a city over a thousand miles from home, I expected to face new challenges. I did not, however, expect to be diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory disease (ID) before finishing my first semester.

“Cognizant of my newly diagnosed ulcerative colitis (UC), I was imbued with a new drive to make the most of my college career and beyond, learning how determined and resilient I am. Despite knowing the limitations of traveling with an ID to a low-income nation, I did not hesitate to accept an internship abroad. I was determined to pursue my passions and not allow UC to limit my experience.”

To support students like Yhan as they pursue their educational goals, AbbVie is awarding scholarships of up to $15,000, which can be used for full-time undergraduate (associate’s, bachelor’s) or graduate (master’s, MD, JD, doctorate) study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the U.S.

Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S. and diagnosed by a healthcare professional with one of the following: ankylosing spondylitis (AS), atopic dermatitis (AD), Crohn’s disease (CD), hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), psoriasis (Ps), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ulcerative colitis (UC), or uveitis (UV).

To become an AbbVie Immunology Scholarship recipient, students must demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement and the ability to serve as a positive role model in the immunology community.

Applications are open through December 7. Apply now at AbbVieImmunologyScholarship.com.
