Scrum Masters are servant leaders and coaches for our Agile Teams. They help educate the team in Agile Development Methodologies to include Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Ensuring the appropriate Agile framework and practices are being followed. They also help remove impediments and foster a transparent and accountable environment for high-performing team dynamics, and relentless improvement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Help the team and organization embrace Agile Core Values and Principles, to include adopting and implementing Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between Product Owners, IT development, Product Management and outside vendors to ensure alignment on the team’s commitments.
  • Supports the team rules – These may include the rules of Scrum, Built-In Quality practices from Extreme Programming (XP), Work in Process (WIP) limits from Kanban, and any other process rules the team has agreed.
  • Team facilitator which is continuously engaged in challenging the old norms of software development to improve performance in the areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity.
  • Help the team focus on creating increments of value each iteration and achieving daily and Iteration Goals in the context of the current Program Increment (PI) Objectives.
  • Leads team efforts in relentless improvement – Helps the team improve and take responsibility for their actions; facilitates the team retrospective. Teaches problem-solving techniques and helps the team become better problem-solvers for themselves.
  • Facilitates team events, including (where applicable) the Daily Stand-up, Iteration Planning, Iteration Review, and Iteration Retrospective.
  • Coordinates with other teams & build effective relationships with the System Team, User Experience, Architecture, and Shared Services.
  • Promotes Agile quality practices & provides guidance to assist the teams in constantly improving the quality of their deliverables and meeting the Definition of Done (DoD).
  • Builds a high-performing team that is focused on execution excellence, unrelenting focus on quality, and coaches the team in self-management and improvement.
  • Helps the team resolve interpersonal conflicts and challenges, and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Supports estimating by guiding the team in establishing normalized estimates and helps the team understand how to estimate Stories, Features, and Capabilities.
  • Exemplifies and evangelizes Agile values and principles.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 plus years of demonstrated experience playing the Scrum Master role for a product development team that was applying Agile principles, practices, and theory.
  • Proven experience with Agile frameworks (i.e. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Proven record of delivering solutions within agreed timeline and with high client satisfaction.
  • Experience leading and managing distributed teams of local, remote, and off-shore resources.
  • Proven experience with ALM tools such as Jira or Microsoft TFS/ADO.
  • Proficient at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques and ceremonies.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and coaching skills.
  • Solid facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Requirements:

  • Agile certification (Scaled Agile Scrum Master, Scrum Alliance CSM, PMI-ACP)
  • Proficient with Jira
  • Experience with Lean Agile Center of Excellence (LACE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field
