The Director of Software Engineering leads a team of technical professionals in the development of critical Scholarship America software application solutions. This position drives an Agile mindset, and ensures the overall application support and development strategy and tactics are enabling the organizational goals and delivering value. The Director of Software Engineering works very closely and collaboratively with all functions within the organization in designing, developing, and delivering innovative student-centric business solutions. The position is responsible for providing the architectural vision, direction, standards and leadership for release trains, and develop robust application architecture solutions that implement software development best practices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Help the team and organization embrace Agile Core Values and Principles, to include adopting and implementing Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) best practices.
  • Lead multiple teams of developers to design and implement software to support Scholarship America goals and students.
  • Build a high-performing team that is focused on software craftsmanship, and unrelenting focus on quality.
  • Provide architectural vision, direction, standards and leadership for the organization.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Management and outside vendors to ensure alignment on the team’s commitments.
  • Develop and own the application roadmap to ensure the applications don’t become obsolete and continue to innovate.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce the proper Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
  • Develop key performance metrics and plans for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain development standards to include code reviews, development patterns and practices.
  • Maintain expertise in chosen technologies and methods, with a continued focus on the latest application development technologies.

 Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field with 10 years of demonstrated experience leading application development teams, and 10 years in an architect role (additional experience may be substituted for degree requirement).
  • Comprehensive understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Proven, consistent track record of delivering business value through IT enabled change.
  • Strong passion, high energy and enthusiasm for solving business challenges through the use of technology.
  • Proven experience with ALM tools such as Jira or Microsoft TFS/ADO.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and coaching skills utilized with team members and stakeholders.
  • Solid facilitation and influencing skills utilized internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, highly functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with outside vendors and consultants.
  • Broad knowledge of current programming technologies and practices with willingness to continue learning new technologies.
  • Ability to work at a detailed level while retaining the big picture of the overall business goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, developing, and implementing modern architecture designs, patterns, and practices.


  • Core office hours Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
