Scholar StoriesXavier was an excellent student throughout high school and well-liked by his teachers and peers. After spending years in foster care, Xavier finally found a loving, supportive family when his eighth-grade teacher gave him a home in 10th grade. Xavier enrolled and was accepted at Columbia College in Chicago, majoring in Music Management/Performance Management. As a freshman, his college released one of the songs Xavier wrote, produced and performed on its compilation CD featuring top student artists. Xavier made it through the first year in part because the college president waived one semester of his housing fees. In the fall he was supposed to start his sophomore year, but his new dad just didn’t have the money. Thankfully, Xavier’s dad recently learned about the Dollars for Scholars program; Xavier will be applying for a scholarship with the hope of continuing his education soon. There are hundreds of students like Xavier who can’t afford to pursue their dream of education beyond high school. With your support, Scholarship America’s 1,200 locally based Dollars for Scholars chapters can help these students achieve their educational goals.
