Scholar StoriesWhen Krista Logelin's father passed away after a year-long battle with lung cancer when she was just 10 years old, her mother knew that paying for college for Krista and her younger brother, Mick, would be difficult, yet she was determined to send her children to good colleges. But when her mother was laid off from her job at Christmas time in 2008, Krista’s mother worried that she wouldn’t be able to pay for a good education for Krista and Mick. “Affording an education at any place where I felt I would do best seemed impossible,” Krista remembers. Thankfully, after applying for many scholarships throughout her senior year, Krista was one of only three seniors in her community to receive a $1,500 scholarship from the Rotary Club of Plymouth Dollars for Scholarships. This scholarship, among others, is allowing Krista to attend her dream college of choice, Wellesley College. Though her mother is still looking for a job, Krista says, “Scholarships such as the one from the Rotary Club of Plymouth and Dollars for Scholars has made a huge difference. It's been a struggle, but my mom has pulled us all through it well. She is my hero.” Help a Student Like Krista Succeed | Return to Scholar Stories |
