Dollars for Scholars 2014-15 Conference Agenda
Scholarship America is excited to welcome everyone from the Dollars for Scholars network to this year's series of Affiliate Conferences! This year's theme, “Expanding Your Reach,” will focus on affiliate capacity building and impact through best practice operations and partnerships. The conference theme will be integrated throughout the agenda; check out the details below, and head over to the conference listings to register for the event in your area!
Affiliate Officer Session on Governance
Friday evening sessions for affiliate officers will be held at most* conferences; there is no additional charge for these sessions, which will cover important topics related to affiliate board governance.

Building Connections with Collegiate Partners and Dollars for Scholars Affiliates
This session will feature a panel of Collegiate Partners who will discuss the issues and realities of student financial aid and the role scholarship providers and private scholarships play.

Student Financial Aid: How it Works and How Dollars for Scholars Can Help
This will follow the opening plenary session and will be an opportunity to have a more detailed conversation with a Collegiate Partner on how financial aid packaging works, the college financial aid cycle and how Dollars for Scholars can work better with Collegiate Partners to maximize scholarship awards.
To Endow or Not to Endow: What’s Right for Us?
A presentation and discussion on the pros, cons and best practices of setting up endowments. The presentation will include data and examples of affiliates that have endowments and those that don’t.
Serving Students with Greatest Need: Why Should We Do It and How Do We Go About It?
This presentation will make the case for serving students with greatest need using statistics and examples. We’ll address and discuss the challenges of incorporating need-based scholarships.

Engaging Young Volunteers: Recruiting and Retaining the Next Generation of Your Organization
A presentation on the why and how of engaging younger volunteers. Participants will discuss approaches for different generation groups and the importance of succession planning.
Moving Toward Renewable Scholarships: A Discussion on the Pros, Pitfalls and Solutions
A presentation and discussion on the pros, cons and best practices of establishing renewable scholarships. It will include examples of both why and how some affiliates have moved in this direction and why others have not.
Using ChapterNet Effectively
This will be an audience driven session discussing individual questions and issues related to the use of the ChapterNet system. The presentation will begin with an overview of common questions and issues.
2:45 - 3:00: Wrap-Up and Door Prizes
The Dream Award
Scholarship America’s Dream Award is a renewable scholarship fund targeted toward completion. These annually-increasing awards will be given to students selected from across the nation who are entering their second year of education beyond high school.
