2013 Dr. Irving Fradkin National Affiliate of the Year
Winnacunnet Dollars for Scholars (New Hampshire)
Scholarship America President & CEO Lauren Segal, Affiliate President
Dennis Kepner and Treasurer/Technology Lead Sue Brooks of Winnacunnet Dollars for Scholars, Scholarship America Board Chair Michael Ryan
Congratulations to Winnacunnet Dollars for Scholars, winner of the 2013 Dr. Irving Fradkin National Affiliate of the Year Award! The chapter was honored at Scholarship America's Annual Awards Dinner in October, and received a $3,000 scholarship to give out to local students.
Established in 1963, Winnacunnet Dollars for Scholars has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to students from four small New Hampshire communities located along the very short New Hampshire coastline that feed into Winnacunnet High School. Because they are seasonal communities, the population is fairly small except for the three summer months when the tourists arrive. Despite the challenges of operating in small, seasonal communities, this affiliate makes a big impact on student success in a couple of ways. Their average scholarship award is greater than $1,000 per student, and they continue to grow their support of returning college students by offering an increased number of renewable scholarships.
Over its 50-year history, Winnacunnet has continued to demonstrate a dedication to Scholarship America’s Dollars for Scholars program through a willingness to share insights, offer feedback and give input to Scholarship America national staff, clearly recognizing the importance of being part of a larger Dollars for Scholars community.
